Community Bowls @ The Hive

Happy Thursday!

Oh what a day we had involving function room hire for training purposes, Leisure Networks Family Fun Day and Girls On The Green.

The Family Fun Day was a great success with over 100 visitors enjoying recreational activities including bowls, Junior Jack Attack games, tennis and sports activities on the Chirnside Park oval and of course a BBQ in the undercover area.

We also had ladies from the Wyndham Women’s Support Group enjoy a game of bowls together with our regular ladies from the Chinese social group.

Our tweet covering the day has been viewed by 5,531 people worldwide and liked by Wyndham Council, Vic Health – This Girl Can, Bowls Victoria, Leisure Networks and others and retweeted by Bowls Worldwide. Not bad for the little club hidden in Chirnside Park.

It’s wonderful to see our lovely facility being utilised for community bowls Thursdays and Fridays when otherwise the greens would be empty. Optimal greens usage will further support our funding request for an undercover facility @ The Hive so that bowls can be played all year round without impact from weather thereby providing for the long term sustainability of the Club.

Bowling numbers will continue to decline unless clubs actively engage with their diverse communities as we are to introduce new people to the sport – be it community, social or pennant bowls. Everyone has to start somewhere! New bowlers of all ages, abilities and cultures are to be encouraged. It is well recognised by Bowls Australia that time constraints prevent many people from committing to regular pennant competition however the numbers of people choosing to play barefoot or social bowls has increased significantly.
